Blanca Bar & Dining

by - May 06, 2017

Sydney foodies are in luck with the newly opened Blanca situated in Bondi Beach's busy shopping district. With an Asian inspired theme, Blanca satisfies both the taste buds and the eyes.

The menu offers a wide selection of dishes that are good for sharing and as small bite treats. The serving wasn't too big, so we were able to sample a number of dishes.
Oxtail Dumpling $5ea
The smoky pulled oxtail was soft with a slight chewiness to it, and wrapped inside a thin dumpling skin. The black vinegar dressing added a nice kick to the dumplings without overpowering them. Comparing to the traditional mince filling which we love, the idea of using pulled meat was interesting and also enjoyable.

Blanca Black Bun - Soft Shell Crab $9ea
Who wouldn't like a nice bite of bun? We do! This bun ticks all the boxes for us. The bun was soft and fluffy, the crab was meaty and crunchy, the pickled cabbage had a nice acidity, and the creamy xo-mayo tied everything together. What more can you ask for?

Croquetas - 'Lap Cheung' Chinese Sausage $5ea
Crispy croquettes made of Chinese Lap Cheung and rich manchego cream. Everything was finely processed leaving the centre smooth and runny, however we couldn't really taste the Lap Cheung. Nevertheless, we still like this dish.

Cured Wagyu Beef (marble score 5+) $25
The thinly sliced beef was nice and marbly, accompanied with pickled mushrooms and crispy nori, and topped with beautiful truffle cream. The meat was so thin that it almost melts in your mouth. The zesty pickled mushrooms and the sweet refreshing rosemary and ponzu dressing made the dish super light and appetizing.

Grilled King Prawns & Stracciatella $27
An artistic dish for sure, the food is beautifully plated and we had to adore the presentation first before digging in. The prawns were bouncy and tender, and were even better when dipped into the creamy saffron butter sauce.

Pork Ribs & Miso Caramel $27

Last but not least, pork ribs!!! At this point our expectation hit the peak as all the dishes so far were amazing. The moment of truth, again the ribs didn't let us down. The meat was crispy on the outside while the inside was tender and juicy. The sticky caramel miso made the ribs finger licking delicious. It was nice having some fresh lettuce on the side.

A thumbs up for the savory dishes and time for dessert...

Matcha Tea, Strawberry & Shiso $14
To be honest, the dessert wasn't exactly what we were expecting...rather than being called a matcha dessert, it should have been called a strawberry dessert as matcha only played a small part in this dish and the flavour was mild at best. Don't get me wrong, the strawberry sorbet was nice and refreshing. It wasn't a bad way to end our meal, it's just that we were expecting something a little more after sampling some of the most exceptional food we've had for a while.

LL Cool J
This mocktail was light and refreshing, I loved the hint of fruitiness.

Bondi Peach
There was an odd taste to this drink or maybe it just didn't suit us.
