Pablo - Sydney

by - November 19, 2017

Pablo has finally launched their first shop in Sydney, bringing their Japanese cheese tarts featuring original, matcha and chocolate flavours. Mr Piggy and I have been longing for this moment. With all ingredients imported from Japan, shoppers can truly enjoy the authentic flavours just like they would from Pablo's stores in Japan. All tarts are freshly baked on the day, and the open kitchen gives a view of the staff working away.

Success at the end of the queue

The tarts come in two sizes, mini or large. For the mini tarts all 3 flavours are available. For large at the moment there are only original and matcha available.

Original $4.2 ea
The original flavour really lets you enjoy the humbleness of cheese tarts. The cheesy filling was super smooth and airy that we could keep eating one after another. The crispy tart shell was also cooked to perfection.

Matcha $4.5 ea
Matcha is probably the king of all ingredients in Japanese desserts, and this tart certainly serves it justice. The matcha fragrance kind of neutralises the richness of the cheese, leaving a bittersweet aftertaste. A sprinkle of match powder also helped emphasise the matcha flavour.

Chocolate $4.5 ea
The chocolate one was also really nice, the amount of cheese and chocolate was balanced well.

In the end it was a close call for Mr Piggy and I, we liked all the flavours. If we really had to pick - I prefer the matcha as it is less sweet comparing to the other two flavours. Mr Piggy prefers the original flavour.

Original Large $19.80
As for the large original cheese tart it was even better than the mini tarts. Although it is a large version of the original mini, in my opinion they tasted very different. Rather than having a really strong cheesy flavour, it had a strong eggy flavour (almost custard like), and the best thing about it was the texture! It was super soft and gooey, when cutting it open, it was as if the filling was about to ooze out.

If freshly baked tarts are not enough for you, there are also sabrel cheese cookies. I got to say these cookie are addictive, once you started having one, there is no stopping!
Sabrel Black $10.90

If cookies can't get any better, then think again! These black cookies are made using bamboo charcoal and black cocoa with a gouda cheese centre, and a pinch of truffle salt. Not only does it sound fancy, it tastes pretty fancy as well. We are definitely going back for more 😋
