This is our second visit to Nomad. The open kitchen design gives a view of the kitchen in full action while the floor is packed with dinning tables. The lighting invites intimate dialogues but you may find it a bit noisy.

House baked sourdough (with black olive butter) $3.5pp

Grilled scallops $10ea
Probably my favourite dish of the night, the scallops were cooked to golden brown while the inside was tender and juicy. It balanced well with the fennel nori slaw which was light and crunchy.
Smoked brisket empanada  $10ea
The empanada was filled with smokey brisket in the centre. We didn't end up using the hot sauce as we felt it wasn't needed. The sauce inside was already rich and sticky.
Southern calamari $28
The calamari was fresh and al dente, I feel the black garlic sauce was overly sweet and I didn't end up eating it. The portion was quite small.
North QLD prawns $39
The prawns were decently large, you could tell they were nice and fresh prawns, and because the prawns were quite big in size, there were quite a bit of prawn butter in the head and it goes well with the creamy and silky saffron curry sauce.
Prawn with hair
I was just enjoying a fat and juicy prawn when I found a lovely long hair tangled in the prawn...To me it is even worse than finding a bone in a sashimi (at least the bone is the fish's), I lost half my apetite...😱
Wood roasted Melanda Park pork $47 (dinner only)

This dish is surely a hearty dish, a solid chunk of pork leg with a massive portion of roasted potatoes on the side. The skin was mostly crispy, some parts were kind of chewy. The meat itself was porky with a hint of smokiness. The romesco on the side was peppery and nutty.
Roasted potatoes (came with the pork)
The potatoes were cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside while the inside was nice and fluffy. The potatoes were cooked in lard, they had a nice meaty flavour, and topped up with crispy pancetta. For some reason, I enjoyed the potatoes more over the actual pork.

Su su soda $7

Yan restaurant is the newest creation from the brains behind John Montagu and Ms Murray (recently closed down). "Yan" literally means "smoke" in Chinese, and this pretty much gives you a good idea of what the restaurant has to offer. The menu covers a nice selection of smoked meat with Asian inspired flavours. Being "meat lovers" and fond of smoked meat, we thought we must come and try this new restaurant given it's previous good track record.

 Pork belly $26 | Lamb ribs $24
At first we were a bit unsure about ordering lamb ribs as we know it can have an unpleasantly smell. However, we decided to give it a try after considering it has been smoked and probably will come with a nice rich sauce which can remove some of that strong lamb flavour. When this dish arrived, it looked amazing and my appetite was escalated with the bright red chimichurri on top. The meat was so juice and smoky, the fragrance of the chimichurri adds a nice punch to the ribs without overpowering the meat. The chili flavour is relatively mild, so for those who can't handle the heat, this is a safe dish for you, although the look of a pile of chilies can be deceiving. Best of all, no strong smell! The best dish of the night.

The pork belly was also very nice and packed with smokiness. It has a nice chew to it, but personally I prefer a "melt in your mouth" texture.
Asian greens $8
The broccolini was fresh and crunchy with a rich and creamy sesame dressing to top it up.
Olive rice $6
Using olives in Asian cooking is not new, this dish reminds me of sweet home-cooking.
Coconut 2 ways $15

Yep, can't call it a meal without dessert. So even though we were already quite full, we still have to make room for dessert and I'm glad we did. What you see is what you get, the dessert is served in it's original coconut shell. The young coconut juice was turned into this refreshing light coconut jelly with a scoop of creamy coconut ice cream on top and finished with some roast shredded coconut chips. It was brilliant how one ingredient can be turned into so many textures and flavours. Instead of calling this dish Coconut 2 ways, it should be Coconut 4 ways (the 4th way is the remaining young coconut flesh inside the shell which can be scooped out with a bit of effort).
Oolong tea $2 pp | Lychee soda $6
